This guide explains how to configure multiple Direct Routes (DR) for the same Enterprise.

Overview

This guide explains how to configure multiple Direct Routes (DR) for the same Enterprise which can be helpful for organizations with multiple locations or heavily segregated departments. ConnecttoTeams frequently adds additional Media POPs for Direct Routing based on customer requests and Microsoft Teams expansion.

The instructions below are also available in a video, which you can watch here.

Enable Multiple Routes for the Enterprise as a Service Provider

Each Direct Route will be in a separate SBC Region. On the Add Enterprise or Edit Enterprise page's SBC Region area, select the SBC regions to add to the enterprise.

Prepare Licenses

Each Direct Route creates its own DirectRouting user in Microsoft, and each of these users claims a license during setup.

  • If you have multiple available licenses, you can configure the routes in quick succession.

  • If you only have one license, unassign it from an existing DirectRouting user before starting the next setup. This is also discussed in Recoup the License from DirectRouting User. Note not to delete existing configured DirectRouting users. Note also that it takes some time, about 48 hours, for Microsoft to propagate this change, so factor in this delay when planning your deployment schedule.

Shown above: Three DR users for three DR setups

  1. Select the relevant direct routing (DR) user.

  2. Select the Licenses and apps tab.

  3. Uncheck the Microsoft licenses to unassign them.

  4. Click Save changes.

Set Up Additional Direct Routes for Your Enterprise

  1. From the Enterprise Portal, navigate to the Direct Routing page.

In the  Set up Additional Direct Routes section, any unused SBC regions will appear in the Available Gateways drop down box.

  2. Choose the desired available gateway from the drop-down box and click Complete Direct Routing.

Allow some time for the status bar to clear.

Result

Once direct provisioning is completed, the new direct route appears and can be utilized in various places.

  1. In the Direct Routing page, specifically in the Configured Direct Routing Details table.

  2. In the Enterprise Dashboard, specifically in the Direct Routing Connection Status table.

  3. In the Add PBX Users page.

  4. In the Edit PBX Users page.

This implies you may change the Direct Route setting for users. You may update few users to use this new Direct Route or bulk update users to assign them to this new Direct Route at once.

Repeat as necessary for all DR users.
