This article provides guidance for Zoom users to communicate with MS Teams users.
Once your Zoom administrator has installed the required TeamsLink bot and app, you will be able to connect with MS Teams users.
Activating the TeamsLink Bot in Your Zoom Chat
Before you can communicate with MS Teams contacts, you must add the TeamsLink bot to your Zoom space and send it an initial message. This registers your account in the Chatbridge database and makes you reachable for cross-platform messaging.
Open Zoom and navigate to Team Chat.
Search for TeamsLink in the apps section.
Send a message to the bot (for example, type hello or hi) and press Enter.
Why is this step required?
Sending the first message to the TeamsLink bot registers your Zoom account in the ConnecttoTeams system. Without this step, MS Teams users will not be able to find or message you.
Results:
✓ The bot responds with a welcome message confirming your account is active.
✓ You are now discoverable by MS Teams users in organizations connected through TeamsLink.
✓ When an MS Teams user initiates a connection with you, a direct message from that contact will automatically appear in your Zoom messaging list — no action is required on your part to accept the invitation.
Sending an Invitation to an MS Teams Contact
Once you have the TeamsLink bot active in your Zoom, you may also initiate an invite to an MS Teams user.
1. From the TeamsLink bot space, send this command:
invite <Teams user email address> |
Results:
Once your MS Teams contact accepts the invite:
✓ A Zoom chat or direct conversation named after your MS Teams contact is created.
✓ This space becomes your direct chat with your MS Teams contact.
Important
If the invited MS Teams user belongs to an organization that has not installed the ConnecttoTeams Unified app, the bot will return the following error:
Finding a Non-Zoom Contact
If you lose your direct conversation with a non-Zoom contact, you can locate it again through the Zoom search or by messaging the bot.
Type your contact’s name in the Search field at the top of the Zoom app.
From the search results, select the appropriate contact or space and start messaging.
Verifying Bot Status
From the TeamsLink bot space, send this command:
echo <message> |
The bot is alive and healthy if it responds back with the <message> you sent.

Important Notes
Connection Invitations Are Per Person
Each Zoom user must individually activate the TeamsLink bot and establish their own connections. Connection invitations are per person, not per organization.

The Chat Connector supports rich text messages, emojis, and file sharing between Zoom and MS Teams users.
