# Configure Codec

Starting in ConnecttoTeams Service Portal release 1.6, service providers can select a codec to assign at the **PBX level.**

Starting in ConnecttoTeams Enterprise Portal release 1.6, enterprise admins can select a codec to assign at the **PBX level.**

When creating or editing the PBX, you may set the **Codec** field in the PBX Settings so that the users provisioned on the PBX will inherit these values.

The **Enforce Codecs on Inbound** checkbox limits codecs on inbound calls. This forces inbound calls to use only the specified codecs.

## Codecs Supported by ConnecttoTeams:

The PBX Connector supports the following codecs:

| Codec | Supported | Note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| G.711 | Yes | Both A-law and U-law are supported |
| Silk | Yes | Both NB and WB are supported |
| G.729 | Yes | |
| G.722 | Yes | |

> [!NOTE]
> Recommendation
>
> The recommended packetization interval is 20 milleseconds.

## **Setting the Preferred Order of Codecs**

The default codes is G.711 A-law followed by G.711 U-law.

It is possible to configure which codecs ConnecttoTeams will attempt to use and the order in which they will be attempted. Where-ever codec management is available whether in the PBX or User screens, click the Codecs box as seen below and the list of available codecs will appear.

Click each codec you wish to enable, in the order you wish to attempt. There must be at least one codec enabled or the system will revert to a default of G.711 A-law.

Normal use might involve the following scenario: If you use one codec for 80% of calls another for 15% and a third for 5% you would want to put the 80% codec first, 15% second and 5% last to help improve processing time. An example of multiple codecs being enabled would look like this:

G.711: Industry standard for phone calls; most common. U-law is more typical in North America while A-law is more common in the rest of the world.

G.729: Lower bitrate.

G722: For HD phone calls.

SILK: Best for mobile calls. NB is 8khz. WB is 16khz and therefore has clearer audio, albeit higher networking requirements.
